Assessment and Progress
You may be aware that schools now need a whole school assessment system which DOES NOT refer to the LEVELS we have used previously. Our current Year Six pupils are the last cohort where progress is measured against LEVELS attained in Year Two.
We assess the children at regular intervals against the New Curriculum objectives. Children will be emerging, expected or exceeding for each year group - this is in-line with National descriptors. Recent changes have made progress judgments more difficult as we are now comparing both different curriculum objectives and different assessments too.
There have been even more recent changes in National Assessments - they are now more challenging and give children a standardised score (+/- 100). From January 2017 we have assessed the children using materials which give a standardised score similar to those introduced in Summer 2016. This gives us a more robust measure of attainment and progress.
Our most useful assessment is that that takes place each and every day - this Assessment for Learning engages pupils and their peers in making decisions about their learning within lessons and projects, so next steps and the support to achieve them are identified sooner.
